The Mercedes-Maybach Pullman is a car designed for the world’s heads of state and monarchs and offers them utmost comfort, privacy and luxury.
Before there was Mercedes-Pullman, the name Pullman was applied to railway carriages with luxurious open-plan compartments manufactured by the American Pullman Palace Car Company. Later in 1960 Mercedes built exclusive limousines named Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman. Based on an extremely long wheelbase, it offered a very generously-sized passenger compartment. In the rear, separated from the driver’s area by a partition, there was space for four passengers to recline regally in four single seats facing each other. In the year this car celebrates its 50th year, Mercedes is introducing the Mercedes-Maybach Pullman at the Geneva Motor Show, which will take place from 5th-15th March, 2015.
Mercedes-Maybach, an even more luxe series than the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, was launched in November last year. Its first model was the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, which is set for a market launch this month. The Mercedes-Maybach Pullman is the second from this series and has a length of 6.50 metres. It has a generously-sized club lounge in the rear, with several creature comforts fitted as standard. The Pullman is 1,053 mm longer than the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. The wheelbase is an impressive 4,418 mm. Its height is 1,598 mm, which is more than 100 mm higher than a Mercedes S-Class. The V12 biturbo engine in the Pullman has an output of 390 kW (530 hp). It has a displacement of 5,980 cc and maximum torque of 830 Nm from 1,900 rpm.
As is typical for a Pullman, four passengers can sit facing each other in the compartment, with an electrically-operated partition window allowing them their privacy. The window can change from transparent to opaque at the touch of a button. Combine this with the standard-specification curtains for the rear windows, and the person can enjoy complete privacy.
There’s a standard-fit 16:9 format 18.5-inch (47 cm) monitor located in front of the partition, which can also be extended electrically. The interiors are upholstered in leather throughout as standard. There are three analogue instruments in the roof liner that inform passengers in the rear of the outside temperature, speed and time.
The executive seats are in the direction of travel and offer utmost comfort thanks to their special adjustment kinematics. The backrest can be adjusted separately while the footwell and seat reference point remain unchanged. The cushion can be adjusted separately, inclination and horizontal adjustment combined. These reclining executive seats feature calf support, which is freely adjustable for length and angle. The luxury head restraints come with an extra cushion as standard. The fold-down seats facing backwards are meant for guests, and upon request a special version of the car can be delivered without these two seats.
